Reading the feature of this fabulous UFO in last week's issue of Abu Dhabi Week magazine take me to amazement. Here I proudly present to everyone, today's UFO, Mr. Lewis De Mesa.

He is featured in Abu Dhabi Week Magazine last week and you can see his feature in this link. He is another very talented Filipino that he caught the eyes of this popular magazine. For our UFO sighting for today, meet our two UFO s. They are the two Pinoys that have made it to "TimeOut Dubai Magazine's" "20 Most Stylish People in Dubai". They are Philip Abalos and Jose Bienvenido Balitian.  

Philip Abalos, 27, is a display manager at Scotch & Soda.

Jose Bienvenido Balitian, 27, is a visual merchandiser/brand trainer at Symphony Style LLC

Meet classic and contemporary Filipino Visual Merchandiser Jose.

Filipinos and Filipinas really have what it takes to stand out. Filipinos really have their unique style that can compare to any other nationality around the world.

I can't wait to feature this one on my blog. This UFO is among the best of the best. He is featured also in "Time Out Dubai" Magazine. You can see his feature on this link. 

Our UFO sighting today is about Darwin Guevarra. He has conducted the first ever art solo show in Dubai by a Filipino Artist at Tashkeel Gallery, Nad Al Sheba. He has an eye for beauty, even for worthless junk, which he turns into unique pieces of art. He is another sort of "Manny Pacquiao" that has risen from nobody to where he is now. He is also the first Filipino artist to bring home the grand prize for fine arts in the Dubai Ladies Club Shaikha Manal New Signatures Young Artist Award. Once he has said:

‘How many times have I applied to a gallery, showed them my portfolio, only to be told that they are afraid [the works won’t sell] and that there is no place in the gallery for it. There’s no money for my artwork, they say.’

But now look at where he is now. "Guevarra's work has developed significantly. From a collection of murky paintings of the body (adorned with zips, pipes and lead-like pallor), his ideas have strengthened and took focus. Large scale canvas-cum-installation now dominate the Tashkeel space. Found objects are interspersed with painted sections giving a chaotic, mechanism appearance. They are like decaying engines that are giving out their final guttural outbursts. The compositions are packed with detail to the point of confusion and, characteristic of the ideas that Guevarra engages with, mingle human and machine"

That was a perfect description of his works by the "Time Out Dubai" magazine.

It's time to take off and hunt for the next UFO sighting. Let's take a look again into media releases of popular magazines here in UAE. Another popular magazine in circulation is "Time Out Dubai". Let's take a look...

Searching thru the website, we browse topics related to Filipinos. One by one topics came out and here...(let the drum roll)...we choose another UFO sighting, the Pinoy Art Painter.

His name is Michael Turda and he has won one art competition here in UAE, Red Bull's "Art of Can" Competition. It's really an awe to know this Filipinos to win in international competitions like this. Around the world Filipinos are known to be great artists and painters. Here is one of them. Here is his picture and behind is his winning artwork.

Michael Turda explains his masterpiece:

"It’s about the different nationalities of the UAE all rushing after a diet red bull can. This is supposed to be the last one in the country, and the mob is rushing to get at it. I wanted to show they’ve been running for days. You see Nationals, Indians, British, Filipinos, Pakistanis – but they’re all the same colour, everyone is pale. It’s like a social realism, it shows that all of these people are equal… sort of. Equal in their want for the can."

It's been a while since I haven't made another post about UFO's. Partly due to busy schedule, I was not able to go out and hunt for UFO's. Looking for other sources I check out one reliable source, the internet.

Browsing the net and checking for news and sites around to find some special pinoys, UFO's (UAE's Finest OFW) in action, I got to check out the "Abu Dhabi Week" site. Typing "Filipinos" in the search box and enter...one by one news about Filipinos came out...and bang I got one UFO.

The trace of UFO I found is posted in one feature of Abu Dhabi week titled "Music Man" (You can check the link). It is a feature about a famous jazz musician and composer "Ziad Rahbani". If you will read through the column:

"But Ziad has seen a surge of new interest in the musical arts since his last visit to the UAE and has discovered the wealth of music schools, clubs and talented musicians here. He also enjoys the cosmopolitan mix in Abu Dhabi – “I currently have a Scottish guy on drums, a Filipino on bass and a Russian saxophonist and vocalist."

That's it... a UFO trace...another special Pinoy (I always admired and liked playing in music bands).. I tried to find more about the Filipino bass player but I cannot find more about it in the internet. (I wish I can followup about this bass player.) Following thru the UFO trace and searching for more, I typed "filipino musicians" in google...and bang all UFO's are here...the Pinoy Music Bands.

UFO Sightings - November 6, 2011

What: Pinoy Statue Dancers

Where: Abu Dhabi
When: November 6, 2011
Time: 2000hrs

It's a nice evening (It's Eid holiday here in UAE.) and after a delicious dinner I want to go out and see outside. My son is tired of watching youtube vidoes and he also need to go out and rest his eyes. As usual, I took off taking my digital camera since surely I know there is a great chance of seeing another UFO (UAE's Finest OFW) in action.



We entered one mall and without knowing on the side of the alley a weird looking silver statue is standing with a coin can in front of the statue on the floor. I think to myself, "What's this funny looking statue doing here?",...thinking to myself..."If I put a coin here what will happen". So I put a 1 dirham coin and with the sound of the "ting" when the coin drops the STATUE MOVE and DANCE for about 5 seconds.


Wow...that's a nice dance move. Another statue dancer in gold is on another corner and same DANCE, STOP, DANCE, STOP performance. Great! People now gather around and put their money to see the statue dancers in action.



Now I realize...It's very hard job for this two people standing without moving for maybe 5 hours and then performing a spectacular dance once money is dropped in the coin can. And they are Filipinos and special Pinoys! 

UFO Sightings - November 5, 2011 (Bokehmons)

Travelling around UAE surely you'll get to see UFO's (UAE's Finest OFW)  in action. I just happen to pass by Family Park in Kalidiya, Corniche area this morning and I found a group of Pinoys having some kind of photoshoot where models pose behind the cameras of these talented OFW's. I heard this before and I have a friend who is one of them, many Filipinos buy special cameras for this purpose just to experience this art of photography. I know to be behind those cameras and make great pictures requires technique, skill, passion and effort. This is what this guys have to master the art of photography. Not only that, these guys are cause-oriented and I just learned that the proceeds of this activity will be donated to typhoon victims in the Philippines. 

For you guys keep up the good work!

Every week, we fail to recognize one important UFO (UAE's Finest OFW) in our society that  touches the lives of Filipinos here in UAE. As Filipinos, we are devote Christians and always seek God everywhere we go. We find time to go to mass maybe at least once a month or we can find many Filipinos who go to mass every week. In the sense of a word we can call him an OFW because he is also a worker, a worker for God. He is the one Filipino who keeps the faith of Christians here because as we know UAE is a Muslim country and expressing our Christian faith poses a challenge specially for this UFO.

Me and my family have nothing to do and decided to go out and take a walk around. We went to one small mall just to see what's in store for us. And bang...UFO sighted, UFO sighted...4 to 5 Pinoys in children's character costumes.

These UFO's (UAE's Finest OFW) are circling around the ground floor making a trail around their path...a trail of smiles and laughs and pictures of children and adults taken with these UFO's.
